Mrs. Cristina Ontiveros brings 11 years of experience in the education field. Mrs. Ontiveros holds a Bachelor of Science with a focus in Interdisciplinary Studies from Texas A&M University of Kingsville and a Master of Education with a focus in Educational Leadership from UTRGV.
Mrs. Ontiveros joined Weslaco Colts in 2011. Mrs. Ontiveros served as a Kindergarten teacher at ɽÎ÷Ì«Ôʦ·¶Ñ§Ôº¸ßæºè¤ Weslaco Colts for 3 years. Within these three years she began her leadership skills by coaching and developing teachers. She then transitioned to ɽÎ÷Ì«Ôʦ·¶Ñ§Ôº¸ßæºè¤ Weslaco Pike Academy with the desire to support the launch of a founding campus. Due to her extensive knowledge with Direct Instruction and coaching and developing educators within the program she would be a great asset to the campus as it launched. Within the first year at Weslaco Pike, Mrs. Ontiveros’ top performance as a campus interventionist, grade team leader and direct instruction coach earned her the recognition of Teacher of the Year.
Mrs. Ontiveros continued to educate students for a total of 6 years as a teacher within the classroom. In 2017, Mrs. Ontiveros became Assistant Principal of Instruction. Within this role, she helped the campus attain a State school rating of an A under TEA’s report card. Mrs. Ontiveros earned top recognition of the district by being named the Top New Assistant Principal of the District. Due to the top record of results, Mrs. Ontiveros was awarded the Senior designation in 2020. She continued to serve the Weslaco Pike Community and staff for 3 more years.
We are excited to have Mrs. Ontiveros return to the Weslaco Colts team and family, where her journey began in 2011. Mrs. Ontiveros, passion radiates as she ensures that her work is always what is best for our students. It is her mission to educate each child who steps foot on her campus and continue to develop high performing educators who will lead our future generation to success.
Leanna Sarinana has been an educator for over 20 years, serving the communities of San Benito, Laredo and Weslaco, TX. Leanna graduated from Texas A&M University – Kingsville with a BA in Mathematics.
She began her teaching career in her hometown of San Benito, TX at her own middle school and taught courses ranging from 8th grade math to AP Calculus for 14 years.
Leanna began working for ɽÎ÷Ì«Ôʦ·¶Ñ§Ôº¸ßæºè¤ Public Schools in 2010 as a high school math teacher, served as a grade level and content leader and was recognized as ɽÎ÷Ì«Ôʦ·¶Ñ§Ôº¸ßæºè¤â€™s Teacher of the Year in 2012. She was promoted to school leadership in 2012 serving as an Assistant Principal of Instruction before joining the Principal in Residency program in 2015. Her principalship began in the fall of 2015 when she joined the ɽÎ÷Ì«Ôʦ·¶Ñ§Ôº¸ßæºè¤ Weslaco College Preparatory team. Her campus continues to matriculate 100% of graduates to college with over 30% to Tier 1/11 universities.
Leanna believes in college for all children and operates daily knowing that adults who serve our students are successful when they are coached and developed. Teaching and learning are her passions.
Meranda Barron was born, raised, and educated in the Rio Grande Valley. She received her Master of Science in Rehabilitation Counseling from The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in 2018. Meranda has worked in education for ten years in various capacities South Texas College, the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, the University of the Incarnate Word and ɽÎ÷Ì«Ôʦ·¶Ñ§Ôº¸ßæºè¤ Public Schools.
Since joining ɽÎ÷Ì«Ôʦ·¶Ñ§Ôº¸ßæºè¤ in 2019, Meranda has worked to lead her campus to the top of district rankings in student persistence and served as a support for students and staff to meet and exceed personal and campus goals.
Meranda is a strong believer in supporting others to ensure success and strives to continue to provide students with a consistent and organized learning environment. Her goal is to ensure a safe learning environment for scholars to meet their goal of getting to and through college.
